About Jean-Claude Monney

Augmented Intelligence Strategist | Author & Speaker | Former Microsoft Chief Knowledge Officer

Five Decades of Transformation.

One Continuing Question.

Jean-Claude Monney has spent five decades at the intersection of technological innovation, business transformation, and human capability. From the early internet revolution to enterprise knowledge systems and today’s AI era, one question has guided his work: How can we turn technological innovation into meaningful outcomes? Today, as an Augmented Intelligence Strategist, he explores how humans and AI can work together to amplify human intelligence and judgment.

His career spans several major technological transformations. At STMicroelectronics, he helped pioneer the company’s early web, intranet, and extranet initiatives. At Microsoft, as Chief Knowledge Officer and U.S. Chief Technology Strategist, he advanced enterprise knowledge sharing and digital collaboration. He also served on the faculty of Columbia University and advised the World Economic Forum on digital transformation. An international speaker, he has shared his perspectives with audiences at institutions and events including NASA, the World Bank, and KMWorld, as well as business leaders across industries.

Jean-Claude’s exploration of Living Knowledge took a personal turn when he began documenting the experience and judgment of a Swiss master winemaker. The result was L’Odyssée d’un maître de chai, followed by its English companion, One Square Kilometer. These books reveal how expertise develops through decades of observation, practice, and decision-making—and what may be lost when that expertise is not passed on.

This experience inspired The Living Knowledge Project, an exploration of how knowledge becomes judgment and action, how human expertise can be developed and transmitted, and how AI can support that process without losing its meaning. Through his writing, research, and speaking, Jean-Claude connects the world of craftsmanship with the challenges facing organizations and communities in the age of AI.
